چکیده
This paper will discuss and provide detailed descriptions of unique configurations of small articulated unmanned systems and describe the design of several approaches resulting in substantial increases in autonomous/semi-autonomous mobility and resultant survivability. The greater mobility results from unique chassis configurations which do not require the space claim for human operators. Each human occupant can consume 2 cubic meters of volume. This volume reduction results in a corresponding weight reduction also contributing to mobility enhancements. The UGVs can be designed with less stringent suspension RTO-MP-AVT-146 7 1 UNCLASSIFIED/UNLIMITED UNCLASSIFIED/UNLIMITED Articulated Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGVs) Controlled with Complimentary Semi& Autonomous Mobility Behaviors Lane, G.R.; Reinholtz, C.; Krishnan, M.; Paulik, M.J.; Rayess, N. The modern military (ground, air, sea) combat/ transport vehicles, not only depending on increasing information/communication systems and increased mobility in various and quite different environmental conditions over the world, must also be characterised by a high manoeuvrability and a even high reliability: that implies an optimised design, based on the modern analytical tools at disposal of ...
متن کاملThe Role of Model Fidelity in Model Predictive Control Based Hazard Avoidance in Unmanned Ground Vehicles Using Lidar Sensors
Unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) are gaining importance and finding increased utility in both military and commercial applications. Although earlier UGV platforms were typically exclusively small ground robots, recent efforts started targeting passenger vehicle and larger size platforms. Due to their size and speed, these platforms have significantly different dynamics than small robots, and the...
متن کاملA Generic Architecture for Autonomous Uninhabited Vehicles
Research on autonomy is performed for various types of uninhabited vehicles: ground, aerial, surface, underwater and space vehicles. A quick state-of-the-art highlights that industry and research develop their own architectures and that no standard is emerging; few solutions propose architecture adaptive to several types of platform. Autonomous vehicles that move in partially known and dynamic ...
متن کاملAdaptive Swarm Formation Control for Hybrid Ground and Aerial Assets
The use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) with Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGVs) allows for cooperation, coordination, and tight or loose collaboration related to multiple missions. UAVs can provide a global perspective of the surrounding environment, obstacles, and possible threats, broadcasting goals, sub-goals and alterations to the overall mission of the swarm. Further, the deployment of UAV...
متن کاملThe Flight Control System of the Hovereye® VTOL UAV
This overview paper covers the flight control system of Bertin Technologies’ Hovereye ® mini vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) UAV, including development, verification in simulation and flight test results. Hovereye ® is a demonstrator of a short range reconnaissance platform in support of army units engaged in urban combat, such as in peace-keeping missions, with an electro-optic day or nigh...
